Unlike exams that follow one fixed global calendar, IELTS test dates are scheduled by country, city, test center, and exam type. Candidates can choose between IELTS Academic, IELTS General Training, and in some locations IELTS for UKVI or IELTS Life Skills, depending on their purpose.
According to British Council Turkey, IELTS test dates for 2026 are already listed in several cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Adana, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Mersin, Mugla, Ordu, Erzurum, and Karaman. The available dates vary by city and test format.
IDP IELTS also states that candidates can search for available IELTS test dates by location and choose between IELTS on Computer and IELTS on Paper where those formats are available. IDP notes that IELTS has more than 2,000 test locations in over 50 countries, giving candidates broad access to exam appointments.
However, the 2026–2027 period also marks an important transition for IELTS delivery. British Council says that from mid-2026, IELTS will no longer be available on paper and all IELTS tests will be delivered on computer. IELTS.org also confirms that paper-based IELTS will be phased out from mid-2026, although exact timelines may vary by market.
For candidates, this means that computer-based IELTS will become the main testing option during the 2026–2027 cycle. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are completed on a computer, while the Speaking test continues to be conducted with a trained IELTS examiner, either face-to-face or by video call at an official test center.
Paper-based IELTS may still be available in some markets during the transition period, but candidates are advised to check their local British Council or IDP IELTS booking page before making plans. Some countries may move fully to computer-based testing earlier than others, while selected markets may introduce a “Writing on Paper” option for candidates who prefer to handwrite the Writing section.
The flexible IELTS schedule is especially important for students applying to universities, professionals seeking international job opportunities, and applicants preparing immigration or visa documents. Since test availability can change quickly, candidates are encouraged to book early, especially during busy periods before university application deadlines. For 2026–2027 test takers, the key message is clear: IELTS dates are available throughout the year, but exact appointments depend on location, format, and test center capacity. Candidates should use the official IELTS, British Council, or IDP IELTS websites to find the most up-to-date test dates in their country.
